The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly of Hawaii

Good
  • Beaches ~ Bellows is our favorite so far.

  • Weather ~ It's always sunny and 85.

  • Our House ~ It sits on a hill with killer views of the mountains, the ocean, and the city.

  • Sunsets ~ Especially beautiful at Ko'Olina.

  • Our Ward/Friends ~ Making new friends is always good.

  • Our Neighborhood ~ Lots of kids, and we live in cul-de-sac.

  • New construction in Kapolei ~ The first Target in Hawaii is coming!!!

  • Waikiki ~ Great shopping, restaurants, and beach.

  • Pretty Hiking ~ So I've heard.

  • Hawaii Temple ~ Too bad it will be closed for 18 months due to renovation.

  • Islanders ~ Honestly, they are the happiest people on the planet.

  • A lot of stuff to do ~ Polynesian Cultural Center, snorkeling, Pearl Harbor, Sea Turtles at Haleiwa, hikes to waterfalls, Luaus...the list goes on and on.

Bad

  • Bugs ~ I have no problem with bugs outside, but ants and roaches CANNOT be in my house.

  • Far away from Family/Friends ~ It's hard to keep in touch with so many times zones between us, and traveling is expensive and LONG!

  • Traffic on H-1 ~ I don't even want to talk about it.

  • Limited Shopping/Restaurants ~ What few stores we have to choose from have a limited selection. There are plenty of Asian restaurants if that's what you like (which we don't).

  • Everything is expensive! ~ Here are a few examples: Progresso Soup $4.65, Charmin 6 pk. $13, Pk. of Chocolate Chips $6, Cake Mix $4, Grapes $8/lb. Crazy huh?!?

Ugly

  • Homeless Beaches ~ We call them Shanty Towns.

  • Waianae ~ A city where there are lots of Shanty Towns.

  • Litter ~ Cummon...where's the pride?

  • Big people in bikinis ~ Well...maybe Hawaiians shouldn't be SO laid back :)

Lynn, Chris and family:
Thanks to Becky and Brian and their blog, me and Aline were able to stumble across your blog too! We need to bite the bullet as well as we have been so disconnected. Congrats on the little one on the way, hopefully we are next in line. Let us know when there is an opening to visit Hawaii...how cool...we know people who live in Hawaii! Take care all of you!

What is it about tropical locations? People think as soon as they hit a beach anything goes. . .Ryan and I got so tired of seeing the HUGE people wearing bikinis when we were in Mexico. And how could their significant others possibly be attracted to the excess flab hanging profusely out of the very small bathing suit?
